What You’ll Do

As a Senior Backend Engineer, you’ll be at the heart of designing and implementing scalable backend services for high-growth software development companies. Your expertise will shape the architecture of distributed systems that handle millions of requests per day, making critical technical decisions on API design, database architecture, and microservices patterns that directly impact product success.

You’ll collaborate closely with client teams across time zones, primarily working with US Eastern and Pacific time zones, ensuring seamless integration despite the distance. Beyond your individual contributions, you’ll play a crucial role in elevating the entire team by mentoring junior software developers and conducting thorough code reviews that maintain the highest standards of code quality. Your voice will be essential in system design discussions and architectural planning sessions, where your experience will guide the technical direction of products used by millions.

The technical challenges you’ll tackle are anything but routine. You’ll build event-driven architectures using Python and modern message queuing systems, optimize database performance for applications managing over 100 million records, and implement CI/CD pipelines that deploy to production multiple times per day. Your work will involve designing APIs that scale horizontally across multiple regions and creating robust monitoring and observability solutions that ensure system reliability at scale.

Technical Requirements

Must-Have Skills

• 5+ years of Python development in production environments
• Deep expertise in Django or FastAPI frameworks
• Strong experience with PostgreSQL, including query optimization and database design
• Proficiency with Redis, RabbitMQ/Kafka, and distributed caching strategies
• Solid understanding of microservices architecture and RESTful API design
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud platforms (AWS/GCP/Azure)
• Proven track record of system design and architectural decisions

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with async Python (asyncio, aiohttp)
• Knowledge of GraphQL and modern API paradigms
• Familiarity with monitoring tools (Datadog, New Relic, Grafana/Prometheus)
• Understanding of DevOps practices and infrastructure as code
• Contributions to open-source Python projects
• Experience working with distributed teams
