What You’ll Do
Design and Build Data Infrastructure
- Architect end-to-end data pipelines processing millions of events daily
- Build real-time streaming solutions that power customer-facing analytics
- Design data warehouses that scale from gigabytes to petabytes
- Create reliable ETL/ELT processes that run without weekend emergencies
Drive Data Engineering Excellence
- Write production-grade Python code that handles edge cases and failures gracefully
- Implement data quality checks that catch issues before they reach dashboards
- Optimize query performance that makes stakeholders think you’re a magician
- Build monitoring and alerting systems that let everyone sleep at night
Collaborate Across Time Zones
- Partner directly with client engineering teams in daily standups
- Translate business requirements into technical data solutions
- Document your work so clearly that junior engineers can maintain it
- Present technical decisions to CTOs who appreciate straight talk
Technical Requirements
Core Skills
- 3+ years of production data engineering experience
- Expert-level Python (you dream in list comprehensions)
- SQL mastery (can optimize queries that make DBAs cry)
- Experience with distributed computing (Spark, Dask, or similar)
Modern Data Stack Experience
- Orchestration: Airflow, Dagster, or Prefect
- Streaming: Kafka, Kinesis, or Pulsar
- Processing: Spark, Flink, or Beam
- Warehousing: Snowflake, BigQuery, Redshift, or Databricks
- Data Formats: Parquet, Avro, Protocol Buffers
- Version Control: Git (obviously)
Cloud Platforms
- Hands-on experience with AWS, GCP, or Azure data services
- Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation)
- Container orchestration (Kubernetes, Docker)
Nice to Have
- Machine Learning pipeline experience (MLflow, Kubeflow)
- Real-time analytics (ClickHouse, Druid, Pinot)
- Data governance and privacy (GDPR compliance)
- Open source contributions
